This anomaly emits some kind of radiation from the soil which affects gas molecules. The molecules bond together in some unknown fashion, giving the air a thick texture. Walking through the anomaly is extremely difficult, akin to walking underwater. Freelancers were paid to detonate an explosive device in the anomaly and take readings whilst doing so. The explosion was largely contained within the anomaly and the nature of the air reduced the blast considerably. Readings suggest that anyone within the anomaly would have been caught between the concussive force of the blast and the thick air and would have taken significantly greater damage, akin to a grenade being used in a confined space.
