SurgeryNot much use to build anything, but vital to install things in a human subject
ElectronicsAny electronic devices

In addition several projects will require multiple skills. These can come from different characters working together. For example, building a computer requires Electronics for the device itself and Mathematics for an operating system to run it. Building a new device to detect specific anomalies and their effects would need Electronics combined with Physics, Biology or Chemistry, depending on the anomaly.

Blueprints

Most crafting is done by 3D printing the relevant parts and then assembling them. To do this someone will need to program the printers correctly. Each item you craft will have a blueprint for the printers. Some of these may be found as loot, others may be written by PCs using scientific and technical skills.

Writing a blueprint is done in downtime using the Project Work option. You will need to have a conversation with a referee about your plans and they will determine the number of weeks needed to finish the blueprint. Smaller projects will typically take 1-4 weeks of downtime, larger projects may take multiple downtimes. As a general rule PCs will find it easier to complete a project in small chunks.

PCs trying to create something brand new will need to develop the science behind the idea before starting on the engineering involved in building it. Essentially the scientists will produce their blueprint and then hand it off to the crafters for manufacture.

Once a final blueprint is created it is uploaded to a 3D printer. Anyone with access to that printer can use that blueprint to produce the relevant item, provided they have the required skills to assemble the printed parts. If you wish to keep your blueprint to yourself you cannot install it on a shared system. You will need your own private printers and power supply.

Workspaces

Blueprints can be installed on multiple sets of printers in different workspaces. Players will need to keep records of what blueprints they have installed in any workspaces they have access to. The current shared workspace will have records kept on this site. The link to that list is on the Discord site, and will be publicly listed when the players who built the workspace have okayed that.

Workspaces will need to be tailored to the work they are intended for, and equipment will need to be found in uptime to build it in downtime. Some items are common to all workspaces, some are unique to the specific type of crafting going on.

  • Power. This could be solar or generators running on fuel. This is a requirement for all workspaces.
  • Security. Your workspace will need locks so that other freelancers can't rob you while you're at an event.
  • Living space. A bed for one or more people and a cooking area.
  • Surgical bay.
  • Science lab. Each lab covers one scientific discipline.
  • Crafting space. This includes 3D printers, the computers to run them, and a space suitable to assemble the finished products. One crafting space will cover all the different types of crafting.

Other options may well present themselves as players discover new technologies within the Zone.

PCs who wish to construct a workspace will need to speak to a ref, who will then provide them with opportunities to find what they need in the field. These will most likely be in the form of favours or missions for NPCs where the item you want is the pay. If you take anyone else on the mission you may need to pay them out of your own pocket.
